Consciousness Journey: The Great Northern Loop

When the inner vessel reaches a state of purity and harmony, external reality responds effortlessly. The geometry of the road arranges itself long before the engine even turns over. Here is the record of an alchemical expedition to the very edge of the island – a journey in which matter, geography, and spirit become one.

I. The Blueprint of Space and the Elements of the North

The route is not a random line – it is a complete, closed circle spanning 465 miles (approx. 750 km), leading from Insch through Inverness all the way to the rawest edges of Scotland:

• John o’Groats: A symbolic point on the north-eastern tip of the mainland. A place where the solid land gives way to the open waters of the ocean and the view of the Orkney Islands. It is the edge of the known map.

• Thurso: A rugged, coastal town exposed to the northern winds. A place of rest and deep breaths amidst the roar of the Atlantic waves.

• Durness: An expanse of mighty cliffs, white sands, and endless horizons. Home to Smoo Cave – a monumental cave acting as an open gateway into the Earth's interior, where the pure North wind dissolves all residue and past tension.

• Return Through the Wild Heart: Closing the loop heading south through the mountainous, empty moorlands of Lairg and returning to Point Zero in Insch.

II. The Alchemy of Movement: Two Days in the Rhythm of Solve et Coagula

A journey without a rigid script – open to staying in a small guesthouse or simply sleeping within the space of the car – is a direct embodiment of alchemical principles:

• Transition Through Solve (Dissolution): Setting out on the road without enforcing minute-by-minute control allows the mind's dense expectations to dissolve. The raw North wind and the power of the Atlantic act as a natural filter – sweeping away petty noise and leaving only pure presence.

• Crystallisation (Coagula – Return to Form): Moving in a circle ensures that returning to the starting point is not a reversal. It is the completion of a circuit. Passing through the raw landscape, the vessel becomes imbued with a new vibration and carries it back into everyday life.

III. The Mobile Athanor and the Spiritual Symbolism of the Loop

• The Car as a Mobile Vessel: Washed, ordered, and treated with respect, the Astra H ceases to be merely a metal tool. It becomes a mobile alchemical furnace (Athanor) – a safe, clean space carrying consciousness across wild landscapes.

• The Archetype of Return: Returning to Insch after completing the full arc, one stands physically in the same spot, yet consciousness is no longer the same. The circle has been closed, and the timeline nourished by new experience.

• Trusting the Flow: Securing the logistics for the upcoming stage in Serbia released attention from the future, allowing for full immersion in the now. The Northern Loop became the natural culmination of this state – an unattached movement purely for the experience of presence.
