Kopaonik – The Hills That Remember

Transformation in the Heart of Kopaonik

My initial encounter with the centre of Kopaonik was restrained.

As is often the case with well-known resorts, it was dominated by a commercialised character. Even with a small number of guests during the summer season, the mountain appeared fragmented by infrastructure – a multitude of ski lifts, wide, empty slopes, and a network of gravel tracks criss-crossing the surrounding hillsides. First impressions did not herald any deeper enchantment.

It was only after two weeks that I decided to give this space a second chance and set off along the hiking trails into the higher parts of the mountains.

As the buildings of the centre began to recede and I could see them more clearly down below, not only did the landscape change, but also the energy around me. The harshness of the ski resort gave way to pure nature. Vast carpets of wild bilberries and ripe raspberries appeared on the slopes. After completing a 300-metre ascent, as the views opened up to the other side of the ridge surrounding Kopaonik, I felt at home. In a single moment, everything changed. I felt clearly that I would be returning here, despite the superficial commercialism of the centre itself.

Subsequent visits turned into a ritual of abundance. I returned time and again, choosing different trails and paths each time, nourishing myself with fresh fruit straight from the bush. The number of people I encountered was negligible, and in the late afternoon hours, practically zero. In this quiet space, I began to ponder the secret of these mountains, which resonated so deeply within me.

The Kopaonik massif carries a unique, extraordinarily powerful vibration. This is no ordinary mountain range. For centuries, Kopaonik has been a place apart – its ancient, mineral-rich earth harbors a vast wealth of crystals and minerals that create a unique, natural resonator of energy. This mountain possesses a powerful grounding foundation, combined with a remarkable lightness and an atmosphere of abundance felt in every breath, in the wild fruits, and in the raw, clean wind on the ridges. It is a place that does not impose itself immediately. It demands stepping beyond the outer form, climbing higher, to reveal its true, deep, and healing nature.

Today was my last time there. I bade farewell to all that was wonderful, carrying a piece of this extraordinary energy with me on the journey ahead.
