The Spiritual Triangle of Bennachie

 Three Gates of Existence

The triangle is one of the oldest and most sacred geometric symbols known to humanity.

It is not merely a shape; it is a cosmic structure that represents the threefold nature of existence. In many spiritual traditions, it depicts the holy trinity of consciousness, but on a deeply personal level, it serves as the ultimate map of our relationship with time: the Past, the Present, and the Future.

We often perceive time as a linear, horizontal line. However, when we arrange these three states into a triangle, we elevate our perspective. The horizontal becomes vertical; the flat line becomes a cycle of integration. By walking a physical triangle upon the earth, we bridge the gap between our inner state and the outer landscape. Today, under a brilliant blue Aberdeenshire sky, I set out to walk this sacred geometry across the ancient granite peaks of Bennachie.

This was my journey through the blueprint of existence.

The Three Keepers of the Peak

The Bennachie range is not just a collection of hills; these peaks are ancient sentinels, silent guardians of a history that stretches back through millennia of Pictish heritage and geological shifts. To walk them consciously is to interact with their distinct energetic frequencies.

1. Oxen Craig: The Portal of Presence (The Now)

Rising to 528 metres, Oxen Craig is the highest summit of the Bennachie range. It is a vast, open plateau of raw granite, completely exposed to the elements. Energetically, this peak is dominated by the element of Air and boundless space. It acts as a portal of absolute clarity. At this height, the 360-degree views strip away the noise of the world, leaving you with nothing but the immediate reality of the sky, the wind, and the earth. It is the physical manifestation of the Present—the only point of power from which we can truly observe our lives.

2. Mither Tap: The Sanctuary of Ancestral Memory (The Past)

Mither Tap (518 metres) is the most iconic peak of the range, crowned by the monumental, ruined stone ramparts of an Iron Age Pictish hillfort. This is a place where human footsteps have worn paths into the rock for thousands of years. It carries the element of Fire—the drive for survival, community, and willpower—and the solid structure of Earth. Energetically, Mither Tap is the custodian of the Past. It does not represent a heavy weight to be carried, but rather the foundational blueprint of our roots, our ancestors, and the lessons that have brought us to this moment.

3. Craigshannoch: The Whisper of Potential (The Future)

Known as the "Hill of the Foxes," Craigshannoch is a quieter, wilder, and more mystical summit. Scattered with fantastic, weather-worn rock formations and close to the hidden depths of Hosie’s Cave, it is a landscape of subtle, intuitive energies. It is closely aligned with the unseen. Craigshannoch represents the Future—not as a rigid, pre-determined schedule, but as a wild, untouched territory full of magic, waiting for the spark of conscious intention.

Fusing Geometry with Granite

By connecting these three peaks in a single day’s march, I did not just hike; I enacted a conscious transit through the blueprint of my own life.

The highest point (Presence) gave me the clarity to look down upon the structures of the past (Mither Tap) and look forward into the wild potential of the future (Craigshannoch). When these three elements are brought into alignment, the illusion of linear time dissolves. The past is integrated, the future is welcomed, and both are held safely within the spaciousness of the present moment.

My Rituals on the Heights

To ground this alignment, I performed a sequence of rituals on each summit, using the very bones of the mountain—the granite—to anchor my intentions.

  • On Oxen Craig (Presence): I stood at the highest point, opening my arms wide to the rushing wind, letting it clear my energetic field. Pressing my feet firmly into the warm granite, I anchored myself in the absolute "Now". I searched the ground and found my first stone—the Stone of Presence, cold, heavy, and perfectly still. My affirmation: "I am here, and I am now. The whole of eternity is held within this single breath."

  • On Mither Tap (The Past): I walked through the ruined Pictish gateway and placed my hands directly onto the ancient, hand-hewn stone walls. I felt the deep, steady pulse of those who came before me. With a long, conscious exhale, I released all outdated programs, emotional burdens, and old codes that no longer serve my journey, offering them to the mountain to be recycled. I picked up my second stone—the Stone of the Past, carrying the strength of my roots and the wisdom of my integrated history. My affirmation: "My past is my foundation, not my burden. I integrate all my experiences into pure strength and wisdom."

  • On Craigshannoch (The Future): I stood amongst the wild, fractured rocks of the foxes' hill, letting my gaze soften as I looked out towards the horizon. I opened my heart to the mystery of the unwritten path. I found my third stone—the Stone of Future Potential, a blank slate of raw granite. Holding it, I breathed in the fresh, creative energy of the unknown. My affirmation: "I step into the unknown with trust and curiosity. My future is a clean space of creation, where my highest potential unfolds."

The Closing Integration: Sowing Seeds in Cleared Space

After 4 hours and 45 minutes of walking, carrying the three stones in my pocket, I returned to the forest floor at the Back o’ Bennachie. I was physically tired, but my spirit felt incredibly light. The journey, however, was not complete without a physical act of integration.

Before returning to my car, I found a quiet patch of earth beneath the trees.

I cleared a patch of forest soil, sweeping away the fallen pine needles and debris. Using my hands, I carved three deep, connecting lines into the rich, dark earth, forming a perfect triangle. At each of the three vertices, I placed one of the granite stones:

  • The Stone of Presence at the top,

  • The Stone of the Past at the left,

  • The Stone of the Future at the right.

Within this newly cleared, sacred space in the center of the triangle, I symbolically sowed seeds of intention.

By placing the stones and planting the seeds, I anchored the energy of my walk into the physical earth. The past, present, and future were no longer separate chapters of a book; they became a unified, fertile ground where new beginnings can safely grow.

I left the triangle there, under the canopy of Bennachie, knowing that the blueprint is set, the space is cleared, and the seeds have been sown.
