The Art of Saying Goodbye to a Space

My mountain haven in Kopaonik has today become history.

For an entire month, this bright, clean, comfortable, and quiet studio was my home. It provided me with exactly everything I needed in this daily space: peace for creation, grounding after mountain hikes, and a shelter for deep inner work. Every corner of this place over these four weeks was soaked in my presence, morning breath, and the lightness of pure energy.

When the time comes to return to the path and head further south, deep gratitude emerges. The slow mode of travel teaches me that places do not belong to us, but for a certain time, they become our confidants. In order not to leave behind the weight of attachment and to take nothing with me except the pure essence, I brought this stage to a close with a few simple yet extraordinarily deep practices.

Standing packed at the threshold, I walked through each room one last time. The first practice was a quiet pause in the middle of every room. I stood in the space and simply gazed at the spots that served me each day. In the silence of my heart, I thanked the bed for restorative sleep, the window for light and space, and the walls for shelter and a sense of security. Expressing this simple gratitude makes matter light.

The second gesture was opening the windows wide just before leaving. I allowed the crisp, mountain air of Kopaonik to flow through the entire interior. This breeze naturally renewed the energy, swept away traces of my daily presence, and left the flat clean, open, and ready to welcome the next people.

The third, closing step was grounding at the threshold. Just before turning the key in the lock, I paused with my eyes closed, took one conscious, deep breath, and felt that everything of value from this month is already carried within me. Only with this certainty did I cross the threshold and close the door behind me.

Now I am already on my way. I leave behind the mountain peace and with lightness open myself to whatever this new chapter in Macedonia brings.
